Language Disorders

Conducting regular surveys to gather information on language disorders and sharing the findings with policymakers, in addition to preparing a study on the economic impact of language disorders.

For the third objective of the "Faseeh" Initiative, our aim is to provide up-to-date data on the prevalence and impact of language disorders among children in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, we plan to conduct a study on the economic cost of this problem and share the results with decision-makers. It is crucial to address this issue as many children with language disorders often go undetected or receive a diagnosis too late, resulting in a lack of early support.

To achieve this objective, Al Muhaidib intends to collaborate with international and local universities and work with six experts to conduct research in four specific areas related to language delay in Saudi children. These areas include studying the prevalence and risk factors of language delay, examining the economic cost of language disorders on families, assessing the level of awareness among families regarding language development in children and studying their needs, and evaluating the knowledge and training needs of Early Childhood service providers in this field. The findings from these studies will be utilized to advocate for changes in legislation or practices concerning early detection and intervention. Furthermore, we will explore the use of technology as a means to bridge the gap in addressing language disorders.

Results of the studies will include:

  • Baseline data on the prevalence of language disorders.
  • The economic impact of language disorders.
  • The level of awareness among families regarding language development.
  • The level of knowledge among service providers regarding language development.
